3-day update: Downsized from 20" to 18" on Model Y — big comfort upgrade
By SolarSurfer919 · ISSUE · About Tesla Model Y
I switched from 20" wheels to 18" on my 2022 Tesla Model Y and wanted to share a quick 3-day update.
Honestly, the biggest difference is comfort. The ride is MUCH smoother now. Before, I always felt like I had to stay ready for bumps or potholes — kind of tense while driving. Now I feel way more relaxed, especially on rough roads (Calgary)
It actually changed the driving experience more than I expected.
On the downside, the steering feels less sporty. It’s not as “sticky” to the road as before. Feels more like a regular SUV now instead of that tight Tesla feel.
But for everyday driving, I think this setup is way better.
Overall:
For me, totally worth it.
Thanks everyone for the help! I did a lot of research before switching.

EpicPulse839: yep, plus your range will increase 😊
HappySpark80: I use the 21 uberturbine in the summer on my MYP. In the winter i have my winter tires on 19" gemini for better range and comfort, also less money for new tires.
ShadowDrift987: What wheels are they?
WildOrbit297: This is awesome! Deets on rims, tires, and where you bought everything? Wife’s car is about due, and this is what I want to do for her Y.
CosmicByte7712: That would made sense as a stiffer suspension offers better handling. I think it's a fair trade-off, afterall this isn't a sports car. It's more of a family car. Looks great, thanks for the feedback.
ChillScout586: Did you have to calibrate the computer to the new tire size?
OceanMaker198: Would you get another set of these pirellis?
