I thought AirPods Pro 3 would track heart rate continuously… turns out they don’t — BUT there might be a workaround
By ChillScout586 · TIP · About AirPods Pro 2
When I got my AirPods Pro 3 I assumed they would track heart rate continuously. Turns out they actually don’t — it only works during workouts or when the Health app is open in the foreground.
I was a bit surprised because that makes the feature way less useful than I expected.
I also couldn’t find any app that enables continuous background tracking, so out of curiosity I started trying to build an app myself to see if it’s possible.
So far most of it actually works. The only thing I’m still trying to figure out is how to automatically start tracking in the background when the AirPods connect (for example via a shortcut/automation).
I’m mainly building this as a side project because the limitation annoyed me and I wanted to see if there’s a workaround.
Curious to hear some feedback - are there features you’d want from an app like this?
Happy to share a few screenshots of the prototype if that’s allowed

Why would you want them to measure your hr continously? That would consume more battery for no good reason.
SwiftMaker952: maybe it'll be useful. maybe not. i'd try out if it was available but i'd stop using it if it cuts back on battery life too much. i would want to be able to control interval at the least.
StormNinja586: Nice project, keep us posted!
